Appalachian State University has expanded its Hurricane Helene recovery work with the help of a generous grant from the Arbor Day Foundation. The funding supported the university's efforts to plant more than 65 new trees across campus, helping replace canopy that was lost to the storm. The planting focused on areas that were the hardest hit during the storm - Durham Park, John Thomas Hall, and the B.B. Dougherty Administration Building. A total of 27 volunteers participated, including students, faculty, and staff from departments across the university - including a special shout-out to volunteers from the Department of Biology.

The project was a collaborative effort led by Sustainability and Energy Management, the Department of Biology, and Facilities Management.
